Hi,
I have the Live 15 and the Side 8 Custom, both controllers Arte working fantastically. I do have an issue tho, in my live projects when it comes to arranging the track I play live and record it all in on the controllers. I haver my send encoders in Live at different settings but don’t want to automate the encoder and loose my original start point that I set on the encoder in live or same situation with the mixer track levels id like to get them all to a level I’m happy with and then automate from that pint without the level getting any higher than the set point.
So basically I want to be able to set the minimum and maximum middi mapping settings for each return pot and fader - the only way I have been able to do this is to midi map inside Ableton and assign the encoder on the live 15 or side 8 to what ever encoder or fader I want-
it kind of works but if I assign anything on the side 8 for example track 7 fader it then moves the track 7 fader on the live 15 as well……any help would be great!
Hey @pnelectrical!
We checked both config files — your Side 8 and Live 15 are sharing the same MIDI channels and CC numbers on many controls. That’s why moving a fader on one also moves it on the other; Ableton can’t tell them apart.
The main clashes in Bank 0:
- Faders — Side 8 Analogs 24–31 share CC Ch11 #0–7 with Live 15 Encoders 0–3 (first device control)
- Buttons — Side 8 Digitals 0–63 share Note Ch2/Ch3 with Live 15 Digitals 0–111
- Encoder switches — Side 8 Enc switches 1–7 share Note Ch5 with Live 15 Digitals 161–171
Two things to fix:
-
The crosstalk — Open the Side 8 config in Kilowhat and move the clashing controls to a free channel. Ch14, 15, or 16 are completely unused on both devices. Then remap just those in Ableton.
-
Min/max ranges — No need for the Ableton MIDI mapping workaround. Every control in Kilowhat has a Min Value and Max Value field. Set those directly and the physical range will be limited without touching your automation.
